Becoming a landlord

Question from Nikki updated on 26th June 2019:

I am looking at renting out my current home and moving cities. I am in Auckland. I am just wanting to know where I can go to get all the necessary information on becoming a landlord, taxes, insurances and etc. Is there somewhere I can go to read up on all of this? I will use a property manager but I want to know what extra costs are involved apart from insurance and property management fees.

Our expert Kris Pedersen responded:

Your enquiry has come from a great site that can help a bit with this (www.landlords.co.nz) and it also feeds into the NZ Property Investor Magazine which can assist you too. You may also want to consider joining a local property investor association (https://www.nzpif.org.nz/items/view/55216/associations) which can help with lots of useful information in this area.
