Bench-top oven

Question from Elodie updated on 15th September 2012:

I am renting a house and the gas oven stopped working. The repair man said it was not possible to obtain the part to repair it. Can I replace it with a bench-top oven?

Our expert Mark Dickson responded:

Bench-top ovens are typically much smaller but provided that bench space is not an issue for you, then it should do the job for a period of time. One issue you should be aware of is that a licensed gas-fitter should disconnect the gas oven. That would typically cost around $80 with additional costs incurred in removal and disposal. You can find a licensed gasfitter on builderscrack.co.nz.
