Cancelling property management contract
Question from Melita updated on 29th March 2015:
Can I cancel a property management agreement without notice if I am unhappy with the service?
Our expert Bernard Parker responded:

Your contract with the property manager should specify how and when you can terminate the management. Some contracts will have a minimum management period, or may require a period of notice. I would be surprised if any management agreement will allow termination without notice. You haven’t given any information about reasons for your unhappiness. I suggest you discuss your concerns with the property manager to see if you can resolve the issues. You may even agree to cancel the management. However, if you cannot agree, and if your contract is binding, you may need to apply to the Disputes Tribunal for an order. I should point out that for that process you will need to establish more than simply being unhappy, you will need to show how the property manager has been failing in their duties to you.
