Depreciation recovery on property sales
Question from Rob updated on 23rd March 2012:
Now that I can no longer claim depreciation on my residential buildings, when will I be able to sell one at a profit without having to pay depreciation recovery? Is it a matter of waiting seven years or are there any other legitimate considerations?
Our expert Mark Withers responded:

Never I’m afraid, there is no time limit on depreciation recovery and the inability to depreciate has no bearing on the requirement to recover what has been claimed historically once the property is sold or disposed of at a gain.
