Maungarakei rent statistics?

Question from Chris updated on 24th December 2013:

Hello, I need to rent a room in a nice apartment in Maungarakei, Lower Hutt. Do you know how I would find information on the length of time it would take and at what price? Thinking $150 a week?

Our expert Alan Bruce responded:

The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment provides advice under the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 (the Act), which covers the relationship between landlords and tenants. If you are seeking information about potential tenancies, you may wish to contact local agents in your area, or check listings in your area to see what properties are currently available. You may also wish to look at the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment’s website, which regularly publishes market rent statistics (please note, however, that this information is intended to be used as a guide only, and relate to an entire property rather than individual rooms). This link below takes you to market rent statistics for Lower Hutt: http://www.dbh.govt.nz/market-rent?TLA=Lower+Hutt&RegionId=9 It is also recommended that you familiarise yourself with the terms and conditions of any potential tenancy prior to accepting any tenancy, so that you are fully aware of what you are agreeing to. For information about landlord and tenant responsibilities and obligations under the Act, you can visit the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment’s website (www.dbh.govt.nz), or call 0800 TENANCY (0800 836 262).

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment provides information and guidance on building law and compliance, services including weathertight homes, and advice for tenants and landlords.
